EFCC Declares Social Media Celebrity, Ismaila Mustapha Wanted
On Wednesday, August 3rd, 2022 the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has declared Nigerian social media celebrity, Ismaila Mustapha, widely known as Mompha, a wanted person.
This announcement was made to the general public through the EFCC official twitter handle.
The EFCC called on the members of the public with useful information on his whereabout to contact the anti-graft agency as soon as possible.
The announcement reads;
"Wanted by the EFCC: Ismaila Mustapha. Anyone with useful information as to his whereabout should contact the EFCC or the nearest police station."
According to information reaching Punchnewss, Mompha, alonside his company, Ismalob Global Investment Limited, is being prosecuted by EFCC, on an eight-count charge bordering on conspiracy to launder funds obtained through unlawful activity, retention of proceeds of criminal conduct, laundering of funds obtained through unlawful activity, failure to disclose assets and property, possession of documents containing false pretence and use of property derived from unlawful act.
It was also gathered that the Instagram celebrity and Bureau de Change operator, Mompha was remanded in the custody of the EFCC but later granted bail of N200m which he failed to fulfil.
The bail was also later reduced to N25 million.
According to report, Mompha failed to show up in court on June 16th 2022.
Also, on June 10, EFCC accused him of turning down the court’s order by travelling to Dubai with a new international passport.
Justice Mojisola Dada of the Special Offences Court sitting in Ikeja, Lagos, on Wednesday, June 22, 2022, revoked the N200m bail earlier granted to the suspect and also issued a bench warrant for his arrest.
Mr. Kolawole Salami, the defence counsel, prayed the court for an extension of time to bring back the defendant to court.
The case was adjourned to September 21, 2022 by Justice Mojisola Dada.
The 43-year-old and CEO of Bureau De Change company, Mompha who is known for his constant flaunting of expensive cars and other properties on Instagram hails from Oyo state, Nigeria.
