Wike Hosts Suspended Rivers Lawmakers In The UK For A Dinner (Video)
The former governor of Rivers State and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory(FCT), Nyesom Wike, has on Monday April 7th hosted the suspended members of the Rivers State House of Assembly for a dinner in the United Kingdom, UK.
The event was held after his earlier meeting with some of his political friends and associates in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, on Sunday night, April 6th.
Wike's senior special assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, made this known through a video he shared on his official Facebook page.
According to Lere Olayinka, the suspended lawmakers were in the United Kingdom for Legislative Capacity Building.
Posting the video on his Facebook page, He wrote;
"Yesterday, the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, hosted Rivers State House of Assembly members who are in the United Kingdom for Legislative Capacity Building, to a dinner. Wike left Nigeria on Sunday night after visiting his political friends and associates in Port Harcourt, Rivers State."
In March 18th, 2025, recall that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu declared a state of emergency in Rivers State and suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara, the state deputy governor, Mrs Ngozi Odu, and all elected members of the Rivers State House of Assembly for an initial period of six months.
Following the suspension, President Tinubu appointed Vice Admiral Ibok Ete Ibas (retd.) as the sole administrator to oversee the affairs of Rivers State pending the period of the suspension.
The crisis in the Rivers State arose due to political strife between Governor Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike.
So, since then tensions have been high in Rivers State following this recent suspension of several lawmakers.
